Commission Terms
These terms explain how Art by Rachel portrait bookings, deposits, payments and personalised commissions work.
1. About Art by Rachel
Art by Rachel creates hand-drawn pet and equine portraits from customer-supplied reference photographs. Orders are placed directly with Rachel and are produced as personalised commissions.

2. Commission prices
Current starting prices are £80 for A5, £140 for A4 and £170 for A3. Prices are in GBP. The final price depends on portrait size, number of animals, background detail and any unusual requirements. Rachel will confirm the final price before work begins.
Delivery is charged separately unless stated otherwise. Where the exact delivery charge is not known at booking, Rachel will confirm the amount before work begins and before the final balance is due.
3. Booking deposits
The standard booking deposits are £20 for A5, £25 for A4 and £40 for A3. The deposit is deducted from the final balance. Payment of the deposit reserves drawing time in Rachel's commission schedule.
If Rachel is unable to accept the commission or cannot meet an agreed essential deadline, the deposit will be refunded.
4. Reference photographs
You are responsible for supplying clear photographs suitable for the portrait. Rachel will advise if a photograph is not suitable. You confirm that you own the photograph or have permission from the copyright owner for Rachel to use it as a reference.
5. Artistic interpretation
Each portrait is drawn by hand. Small differences from the reference photograph form part of the artistic process. Screen colours also differ from the colours of original artwork.
6. Timescales
Rachel will confirm an estimated completion window after reviewing the reference photographs and commission details. Christmas and other date-sensitive commissions depend on available drawing time. A requested date is not guaranteed until Rachel confirms it.
7. Final balance
The remaining balance is due before the finished portrait is dispatched. Rachel will confirm the amount due and delivery charge. Ownership of the physical artwork transfers to the customer after full payment.
8. Cancellations
Portraits are made to the customer's specification and are personalised goods. The normal online change-of-mind cancellation right does not generally apply to personalised or custom-made goods.
Art by Rachel still offers a fair voluntary cancellation approach. If you ask to cancel before drawing has started and Rachel has not incurred costs, the deposit will be refunded. If work has started or costs have been incurred, any amount retained will reflect the work completed and direct loss arising from the cancellation.
9. Faults and problems
Your statutory rights are not affected. If the finished artwork is faulty, damaged, not as described or otherwise does not meet your legal rights, contact Rachel promptly so the issue is resolved.
10. Copyright and portfolio use
Purchase of the original artwork does not transfer copyright in Rachel's drawing. Personal use of the portrait is welcome. Commercial reproduction, resale of reproductions or use in branding requires Rachel's written permission.
Rachel may photograph finished artwork for her portfolio and social media. If you prefer a commission not to appear publicly, tell Rachel before completion. Customer-supplied reference photographs containing personal information will not be published without permission.
11. Customer conduct and lawful use
Orders must be placed by someone aged 18 or over. Rachel reserves the right to decline material that is unlawful, abusive or infringes another person's rights.
12. Complaints
Please email rachel_hague@hotmail.co.uk. Rachel will aim to resolve concerns fairly and promptly.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. Nothing in these terms removes rights given to consumers by law.
